Development of E-Dentistry at KHI

To date the departmental facilities are fully connected to the most sophiscated ICT apparatus a KHI, making it easy for it to expedite all its training and dental consultancy business by use of information and communication technology.

The information technology at KHI has clearly influenced the manner in which research, teaching, clinical training of our undergraduate and patient care is delivered.

The use of computer technology for the teaching and clinical applications, digital imaging applications, the internet, and other technologies for sharing information have become the norm at KHI emphasizing the importance of concerted and comprehensive approach to E-learning and dental education in Rwanda!

Expanding minds through research based education
In the near future we do hope to undertake collaborative professionally managed clinical research with pharmaceutical and dental industries in the country and beyond.

What is coming on?

“Special Smiles for children” week set for 5th -9th May 2008
This year’s special oral care event organized by KHI-Dental department  to give school children a worthy smile, will take place in Nyamirambo effective 5th May 2008. .
Patients will receive free dental exam, Atraumatic Restorative Treatment (ART), sealant, oral hygiene instruction and other treatment or consultations as needed. Each child will be offered a toothbrush and toothpaste.
There also will be hands-on activities, dental videos and oral-hygiene instructions for school teachers and children.
More than 50 volunteers, including KHI administrators, dental, faculty staff and students will help to keep the day-to-day events running smoothly.
The “Special Smiles project” for KHI-Dental event is part of department’s effort to encourage children to adopt good dental health habits early on, so they can avoid major problems later. This is because a health smile is a precious sign of self esteem and happiness.
The event is sponsored nationally by the CTB/BTC-Rwanda
“Community Outreach-Based Education and Services”

    • Effective 19th May till 6th June 2008, KHI-Dental department will be carrying out community based outreach services (3 weeks community attachments) to the community dwellers of Kirehe District. The program is aimed at rendering community oral health services to the people in rural communities and provide the final year dental undergraduates hands-on outreach field experience. The services will be provided within:
  • Peripheral health centre facilities and
  • Community based dental health services of Kirehe District.

The programme is sponsored by the Appui au Renforcement Institutionel au Minisante-Phase 3 (CTB-Rwanda).
