Physiotherapy is an essential component in the National Health Care System that includes preventive, curative, promotive and rehabilitative services. There is always a need to train compentent physiotherapists who will be able to plan, organise, manage and implement rehabilitation programmes and provide physiotherapy services at all levels of our health care system.
The department of physiotherapy was among the pioneer professional courses that provided diploma level offering a three years training. But now we have phased out diploma programme and started with bachelor degree. The first batch of the bachelor degree program finished in 2009.
To be a centre of excellence in the training and development of physiotherapy professionals in Rwanda and East African Region
To train and produce clinically oriented physiotherapy professionals to deal with society specific health care needs, contribute towards community health promotion and development of physiotherapy profession in Rwanda, thus, contributing to the improvement of the health of Rwandans in all applicable areas.

This program is a full-time course that lasts for four years. The total number of credits to be covered in each year of the program is 120 Credits.
Applicants holding high school certificates issued and accredited by the Ministry of Education or its equivalent with credits in Mathematics-Chemistry-Biology or Physics-Chemistry-Biology are eligible.

Bridging Program of Physiotherapy
The bridging program is a full-time course for one calendar year with two semesters. It is anticipated that the course will be offered for five consecutive years
Applicants should have a 3 year Advanced Diploma in Physiotherapy or equivalent from an institution recognized by the World Confederation for Physical Therapy (WCPT), with at least 60% or equivalent, in their academic performance; with professional work experience of at least 2 years in physiotherapy
