Goal:
To train personnel to develop science based nutritional knowledge and skills to enhance the quality of life and the well being of all Rwandese through nutrition education, basic research and prevention of nutrition related diseases. The acquired knowledge will open doors to compete at the international level and advance in their professional life.
Duration and Award:
Graduate are awarded a “Bachelor of Science in Human Nutrition and Dietetics” abbreviated as “BSc Human Nutrition and Dietetics”. The Bachelor’s Degree of Science in Nutrition and Dietetics is full programme which lasts four academic years. The academic year consists of two semesters comprising 40 weeks including teaching, self-learning, assessments and field trainings (internship). There is an addition year of intensive theory and field training (internship) in Dietetics for those who become officially registered Dieteticians.
Human Nutritionists and Dieticians form an essential component in the National Nutritional Health Care System that includes preventive, therapeutic, promotional and rehabilitative services. Therefore, Graduates work often as public health nutritionists and dieticians or nutrition educators and might be working in hospitals, health centres, special nutrition centres, public health organizations, wellness centres, and advocacy groups at the local district, government or non government level. Responsibilities would vary from developing, providing and evaluate nutrition education, policy development and chronic disease prevention programs for all population ages.

Admission requirements:
To enter the department, the candidates shall fulfill requirements of the Ministry of Education and those of KHI. The candidates shall have completed and passed secondary school in the following combinations: Physics-Chemistry-Biology; Maths-Chemistry-Biology; Chemistry-Biology-geography and Physics-Chemistry-Maths.
Any other candidates who will wish to join the program to complete their studies will be also considered and their background will be taken into account to decide which courses they will have to complete and be Human Nutritionists and dieticians.
