Department of “Environmental Health Sciences” (EHS)
Environmental Health Sciences refers to the “theory and practice of assessing, correcting, controlling and preventing those factors in the environment that can adversely affect the health of present and future generations”. According to WHO, Environmental Health comprises components of water supply and water quality, personal and domestic hygiene, food hygiene and safety, occupational health and safety, environmental pollution control, vectors and vermin control, housing and settlements, waste management, environmental health education, disaster and emergency preparedness, inspection of premises, environmental health law, port health and disposal of the dead.
EHS Department is aiming to develop personnel who are competent and responsible for promoting health, preventing diseases and ill health conditions and demonstrating related strategies to the Rwandan community. The department is currently based in Nyamishaba Campus- Karongi District and it offers Bachelor’s degree in environmental health sciences
