Program  Mission

The mission of Kigali Health Institute Medical Imaging program is to provide a quality educational program that meets the lifelong learning needs of its community. This is achieved by preparing graduates for entry-level employment as radiography science professionals.The program mission is consistent with the Institute’s mission statement.

GOALS

The program holds as its primary objectives the education and training of qualified applicants to become competent radiographers. The program endeavors to instill in students, and subsequently graduates, the following program goals:
Carry out imaging procedures using the various imaging modalities

  • Administer correctly ionizing radiation to patients during radiation therapy
  • Educate the public on the benefits and hazards of ionizing radiation
  • Carry out management functions in a radiology unit
  • Carry out quality assurance
  • Participate in the maintenance of equipments used in medical imaging unit
  • Maintain optimum film processing and dark room conditions
  • Carry out operational research
  • Uphold professional ethics
  • Ensure continuing education for self, peers and other health professionals

OUR VISION
Our vision is to provide our students with the highest quality of education with the most efficient use of our health care system’s resources and the East Africa region at large. Faculty directed study places our staff members and the Medical imaging student in a one-on-one relationship of guidance and feedback throughout their three-year enrollment to enhance their educational experience.

One look is worth a thousands listens- seeing through the eye of a radiographer is beleiving. “traditionally diagnostic of conditions such as pneumonia involved listening percusions in the chest cavity” -now with technology this has been made much easier with aid of a visual image, thanks to technology!
In this regard we always endevour in the production of quality images in the sence that quality and accurate diagnosis can not be achieved without this provision hence, we are competency driven when moulding our graduates.

 

sea, the beachesYoung patients normally do not fit into standard practice; young children are naturally active, making simple procedures as performing an x-ray examination to be problematic for paediatric radiology professional. In this regard our training aims to make students to take a leadership role in improving care for children. We always strive to underscore the fact customer service goes beyond simply 'service' in paediatric health care and clearly is an issue of exceptional patient and family care.

 

Throughout its history, the study of Medical Imaging has continually expanded its curriculum to embrace the changes and advancements in its profession.. As technology advances our curriculum also evolves to incorporate new equipment, procedures and teaching methods to advance our students.

 

OUR PLAN


Our plan is to provide a core curriculum consistent with the position of the National Higher Educational Council of Rwanda and upon completion of our recognized and accepted academic and clinical competency curriculum for our profession the student will:

  • Develop graduates who will recognize the need for a high standard of professional values and life-long learning

  • Provide a comprehensive curriculum that will prepare students to formulate effective communication and critical thinking skills.
